NOTIFICATION OF AVAILABILITY OF THE DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME AND SITE LAYOUT FOR PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT

Nature of Activity: Genesis Koup 2 Wind Farm (Pty) Ltd, received environmental authorisation (EA) to develop the Koup 2 Wind Energy Facility (WEF) and associated infrastructure. The EA includes approval for the development and operation of a WEF, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and associated infrastructure.
The Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for the development (ERM, 2024) represents the updates to the previous EMPr submitted with the Final EIA Report (SiVEST, 2022) and is prepared as part of the requirements of the EIA Regulations promulgated under the National Environmental
Management Act 107 of 1998 (NEMA, 1998), as amended. The EMPr outlines measures to be implemented in order to minimise adverse environmental degradation associated with the various phases of the development. It provides a set of guidelines for the environmental management of all works executed by the Developer, Engineer, Contractor and Sub-contractor/s to have a minimum impact on the environment in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and standards.
An additional 30-day scoping Public Participation period will be undertaken to ensure compliance with the regulations and will augment the public participation process that was undertaken during the previous application process.
Development Location: The proposed Koup 2 Wind Energy Facility (WEF) and associated infrastructure, located near the town of Beaufort West in the Beaufort West and Prince Albert Local Municipalities, which falls within the Central Karoo District Municipality of the Western Cape Province.
Invitation to Comment: Members of the public, local communities, and stakeholders are invited to comment on the EMPr and Site Layout, which is available for public review and comment, from Friday, 20 September 2024 until Tuesday, 22 October 2024 (both days inclusive), as per Table 1 below.
