Environmental Resources Management Southern Africa Pty Ltd (ERM) was appointed by Shell Downstream SA (Pty) Ltd (hereafter ‘Shell’) to conduct the Basic Assessment process for the development of a filling station on portion 847 of the farm Knopjeslaagte 385 JR, Diepsloot, City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.

This Project requires an Environmental Authorisation (EA) from the Gauteng Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998), as amended (NEMA). The Proposed construction of a filling station triggers the following listed activity in Government Notice (GNR) R327 of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act No. 107 of 1998):

  • GNR 327: 14: “The development and related operation of facilities or infrastructure, for the storage, or for the storage and handling, of a dangerous good, where such storage occurs in containers with a combined capacity of 80 cubic metres or more but not exceeding 500 cubic metres”.
