On the 26 May 2021, Darling Wind Power (Pty) Ltd (the Developer), lodged an application with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) for Environmental Authorisation (EA) of the Darling (1B) Wind Energy Facility and the staged decommissioning of the operational Darling National Demonstration Wind Farm. The positive EA was issued on the 05 November 2021, and on the 01 December 2021, corrections to the EA for the amendment was granted. The development is located near the town of Darling and Yzerfontein, in the Western Cape Province.

In accordance with the EA issued, the Final Site Layout Map and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) was not approved as per Condition 14 - 16 of the EA (DFFE Reference 14/12/16/3/3/1/2342) and the EA required that the layout and EMPr be made available for comments by registered Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) before written approval can be received from the competent authority, i.e., the DFFE.

Following the micro-siting and specialist input, the Final Site Layout Map and EMPr was updated and was made available for review and comment by registered I&APs from Tuesday, 30 May 2023 until Thursday, 29 June 2023 (both days inclusive).

The Department evaluated the final EMPr and final layout plan dated August 2023 and found that the final EMPr and final layout plan comply with the requirements of the EA conditions (14 – 16) and are approved.
